Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy vision, provides antioxidant protection and immune system support, and aids in bone formation, skin health, wound healing, reproduction, and the building of healthy blood cells. Studies show that low dietary intake of vitamins A and C is associated with increased odds of asthma and wheezing.15

Vitamin C provides antioxidant protection against DNA damage, enhances immune system function, and significantly reduces the risk of numerous degenerative and chronic diseases. Vitamin C is also needed for production of red blood cells and to prevent hemorrhaging, for wound healing, and for production of collagen—an important protein in skin, blood vessels, cartilage, ligaments and tendons.13,6

Vitamin D3 Vitamin D is essential for promoting bone health and is now recognized for its significance in regulating immune system function, reducing the risk of infectious and chronic diseases such as cancer, and facilitating normal brain function, central and peripheral nervous system function, blood clotting and blood cell formation, cardiac activity, and optimal muscle strength. Vitamin D also appears to play an important role in glucose metabolism—the conversion of blood sugar into energy.13,7,8

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and has been shown to help prevent degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Vitamin E also enhances immune function, protects against environmental toxins, facilitates wound healing, improves insulin function, aids in red blood cell production, helps prevent blood clots, and is necessary for nervous system function.13

Thiamine (vitamin B1) plays an essential role in carbohydrate metabolism and nervous system function and acts as a coenzyme in the conversion of glucose into energy.2,3,9

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is essential for endocrine (glandular) health and functions as a necessary component in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins for energy. Riboflavin is also needed for thyroid hormone metabolism and maintaining glutathione, one of the body’s most important antioxidants.2,3,1012

Niacin is required for releasing energy from carbohydrates and for assisting in the metabolism of fats. Niacin is also essential for healthy nervous system function, helps improve circulation, raises HDL cholesterol levels, and exhibits other cardiovascular benefits.2,3,10,13

Vitamin B6 is required for almost every bodily process, including brain and nervous system activity, cardiovascular function, hormone production, immune system function and energy metabolism. Vitamin B6 also plays an important role in regulating mood and behavior and is a potent antioxidant.13,10,14-16

Folic acid is necessary for brain, liver and immune system function, mental and emotional health, formation of red blood cells, production of genetic material (DNA/RNA), and prevention of birth defects. Folic acid also provides cardioprotective effects and has been shown to reduce the risk of stroke.13,10,17

Vitamin B12, best known for its role in healthy blood formation and prevention of anemia, also assists in the production of genetic material, facilitates iron function in the body, and is critical for healthy nerve cells and central nervous system function. Even subtle vitamin B12 deficiency can cause metabolic and neurologic symptoms, including depression, cognitive impairment and hyperhomocysteinemia (a risk factor for cardiovascular disease).13,10,18,19

Biotin is required for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein, and assists in the utilization of protein, vitamin B12, folic acid and pantothenic acid. Biotin is also involved in blood sugar regulation and insulin function.13,20,21

Pantothenic acid plays a vital role in cellular metabolism and energy production, participates in nerve transmissions, helps maintain a healthy digestive tract, prevents premature aging and wrinkles, and is involved in immune system function. Pantothenic acid also increases production of adrenal hormones that control the body’s reactions to emotional and physical stress.13,10,22

Calcium is required for healthy bones and teeth, muscle contractions, nerve transmission, immune system function, cardiovascular health, and production of biological energy. Calcium may also safeguard the body against cardiovascular disease by reducing high blood pressure and lowering cholesterol. Additional research suggests that calcium offers protection against various types of cancer, including breast and colon cancer.2,3,10,23-26

Iron assists in cell production and the transportation of oxygen to the cells. Adequate iron intake is necessary for the prevention of anemia and is also vital for the healthy development of blood, bones and soft tissues. (Iron is not included in Super Supplemental Without Iron.)2,3,27

Phosphorus is necessary for calcium to function properly, as calcium works with phosphorus to build and maintain healthy bones and teeth. Phosphorus also assists in energy production, kidney function, cellular and tissue growth and repair, and production of genetic material.2,3,28,29

Iodine is essential for healthy thyroid function and the production of thyroid hormones, as well as circulatory activity, muscle and nervous system function, and energy production. Iodine may also play a role in immune function.13,10,30

Magnesium is essential for cardiac health, energy production, formation of bone and protein, nerve and muscle functions, and blood sugar regulation. Magnesium also helps maintain the acid alkaline balance of the body, protects against heavy metal induced toxicity, and is necessary for calcium to function properly. In addition, studies have confirmed the effectiveness of magnesium for treating arrhythmia, preeclampsia, migraine, and severe asthma.13,10,31,32

Zinc is essential for central nervous system function and plays a critical role in adrenal health and production of genetic material. Zinc is necessary for reproduction, immune system function, carbohydrate digestion, insulin production, wound healing, vision and the ability to taste and smell. Zinc also exhibits antioxidant properties, prevents the absorption of lead and cadmium (toxic heavy metals), and plays a role in cancer prevention.13,10,33,34

Selenium, an essential trace element that must be obtained in the diet, is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies. Selenium is best known as an antioxidant and for its ability to reduce oxidative stress and DNA damage. Selenium also assists in thyroid hormone metabolism and protection against organic and inorganic mercury, and acts as a cancer preventive agent.13,35-37

Copper, a trace mineral, aids in red blood cell production by promoting iron absorption. Copper is also necessary for protein and thyroid hormone metabolism, bone formation and maintenance, immune function and healing.13,38

Manganese, a trace mineral, is necessary for bone and connective tissue repair, nervous and immune system function, and is a component of the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD), a powerful antioxidantthat prevents cellular damage associated with cancer and the aging process. Manganese is also essential for the formation of T4 (thyroxine), a thyroid hormone.13,10,39,40

Chromium, a trace mineral, is necessary for insulin production and functioning and plays an essential role in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Chromium is also required for proper lipid and carbohydrate metabolism.13,41

Potassium is an essential mineral required for energy metabolism and cellular functions, as well as for preserving alkalinity of body fluids. Potassium assists with muscle and nervous system activity, regulates fluid and mineral balance, facilitates kidney function, and works in conjunction with sodium to normalize the heartbeat. Potassium is also vital for normal blood pressure—decreased potassium intake may result in hypertension and heart disease.13,42,43

Inositol assists in fat metabolism, helps lower blood cholesterol, and is essential for hair growth and bone marrow cells. Inositol is also needed by the neurotransmitter acetylcholine for cognitive and memory function.13,44

PABA (paminobenzoic acid) functions as a coenzyme in the breakdown and utilization of proteins and in the production of red blood cells. PABA has also been shown to enhance fertility in previously infertile women and may be helpful in the treatment of skin disorders.2,10,45

Choline bitartrate is a precursor to acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter that facilitates concentration and memory function. Choline also enhances cardiovascular health by helping to metabolize homocysteine.1,2,10,46

Lycopene, found predominantly in tomatoes, exhibits significant antioxidant activity and anticancer and chemopreventive effects, particularly in prostate cancer. Lycopene also appears to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.47-49

Lutein, a carotenoid concentrated in the retina of the eye, acts as a protective pigment and is essential for maintaining vision. Lutein appears to play a central role in protecting against development of age related macular degeneration, and has also been shown to influence immune responses and inflammation.50,51

Antioxidant Fruit Blend (white grape, apple, pear, orange, pineapple, cherry, strawberry, blueberry) This antioxidant rich blend of fruits provides vitamin C, folic acid, potassium, and other nutrients that promote cardiovascular and immune health and help protect against certain cancers.52-55

Whole Foods (asparagus, broccoli, cranberry, mangosteen, carrot, spinach, tomato, açai berry, pomegranate) These fruits and vegetables are rich sources of antioxidants, immune boosting phytonutrients, minerals and vitamins, including vitamins A, B Complex, C, E and K.52,56-61

Amino Acids (Lleucine, Llysine, Lvaline, Lisoleucine, Lphenylalanine, Lthreonine, Larginine, Lmethionine, Ltyrosine, Lcysteine) Amino acids are the chemical “building blocks“ for proteins and tissues, including

muscle tissue. Amino acids also enhance brain function, immune response and free radicalscavenging activity, and are used to combat heart disease and other circulatory problems.62-65

Dandelion root, classified as a liver tonic, contains bitter substances that stimulate digestive fluid secretions and bile release from the liver and gallbladder to enhance digestive function. Dandelion is a rich source of numerous vitamins and minerals, including beta carotene, vitamins C and D, many B complex vitamins, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium and zinc.66-70

Alfalfa is a rich source of protein and vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, D, E and K. Alfalfa also contains plant enzymes for digestion and high amounts of phytoestrogens and saponins, which are useful in preventing cardiovascular disorders.10,69,71,72

Cabbage contains vitamin C and other nutrients that demonstrate anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, anticarcinogenic and chemopreventive activity.73-75

Hesperidin, Lemon bioflavonoids and Rutin are powerful antioxidants that demonstrate anti- inflammatory, anticancer and cardiovascular protective activity. Studies have confirmed that a diet high in flavonoids contributes to a reduced risk of heart disease.1,76-78

Rose hips are a rich source of vitamin C, containing 10 to 100 times the amount of any other food source. Rose hips also contain flavonoids, which provide antioxidant, anti-allergy, anti-cancer, anti- inflammatory and antiviral effects.1,2,79

Chlorophyll, which gives plants their green color, provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing properties and has been used to eliminate bad breath and odors. Chlorophyll is also recommended in cancerpreventive diets.10,52,80,81

Kelp has been shown to promote thyroid function and improve sluggish metabolism, particularly due to its natural iodine content. Kelp is also a plentiful source of minerals, vitamins, amino a cids, protein and fiber.10,66,82-84
